The U.S. Department of Justice has uncovered a widespread operation involving over 100 American firms that unknowingly hired North Korean IT workers. These individuals allegedly stole intellectual property and funneled proceeds to fund Pyongyang's weapons programs.

Federal authorities executed coordinated actions including indictments, arrests, and seizures across 16 states. Investigators confiscated 29 laptop farms, shut down 21 fraudulent websites, and froze 29 bank accounts used for money laundering. The scheme represents a dual threat - both financial theft and potential cyberespionage risks through access to sensitive corporate data.

Among the assets seized were approximately 200 computers and 17 web domains tied to shell companies designed to mimic legitimate U.S. businesses. The FBI emphasized this operation as part of ongoing efforts to combat North Korea's exploitation of the American tech sector for illicit funding.
